- The "ice Joins Ks" Post -

the background.

ice is one of the founding members of Team Zenith, put together by a bunch of ex-DsD DOTA players and initially named mVp). Together, this formidable team walked all over their opponents for the good part of a year before tasting defeat in WCG 2006 to team mi2. Following that, LuX- enlisted and quit the team, xMusiCa- left for Australia, and GPS- took a backseat as organizer while preparing for his A levels. Tofu-, Ant- and ice were similarly weighed down with major exams. With this first major reshuffle in line-up, Zenith was thrown into some sort of disarray and it was thus not very surprising that they lost WCG 2007 to Micronology.

What happens next makes things more complicated. Under Tofu’s direction and persuasion (and the lack of original Zenith members), he initiates a merger with arch rivals Micronology.

the controversy.

After a break from team Zenith in 2007 during which he was studying for his N levels, ice returns to a totally different Zenith, with only 2 original members still actively in the team, and arguably, only Tofu actively playing. (Ant, and the team, was pre empting his imminent enlistment, hence he took on the role of Organiser)

Not very certain how things would turn out, ice plays a couple of competitions with the new micro-Zenith before breaking away to form his own team “JUJUJU”. Reluctant to go back to micro-Zenith, but also admitting that JUJUJU was not experienced enough to win as consistently as micro-Zenith (especially since WaN decides to go back to iPod), ice plays for the 2 teams for different online competitions - ADC and SKOTH. (ie, JUJUJU and micro-Zenith)

the finale.

About this time, interaction with Malaysian team Kingsurf increases due to the nature of Asian online DOTA competitions which have to be played via GGC. They invite him for some games (which I think they’ve been dying to do for a while) and things work out really well with them.

ice however, doesn’t feel that its realistic to play with Ks, especially since he is in his O level year. Also, he wouldn’t be able to take part in Malaysia’s ESWC or WCG or any of the national competitions which exclude foreigners, and vice versa. This indecision culminates with a discussion with micro-Zenith, where they voice their dissatisfaction with his teaming up with their current arch rival team Ks. Being pressed for a decision, he avoids giving an answer until he played – and won – a Malaysian Cc competition (Cyberstar) together with Ks.

Having lived, slept, played and eaten with the Ks guys for 3 days and 2 nights, the decision is easy to make. So easy that he makes it without me. (The first decision EVER he makes independent of me, possibly.) So, in the wee hours, I wake up, and find out, that…

ice chooses Ks.

(incidentally, Ks is going to change their team name as they are leaving their current sponsors Kingsurf. Also, it would be interesting to see how the team differentiates between their 2 ice’s.)

Today is Wednesday the 12th of March.

At 2pm today CMPB calls me up. I've got to collect my enlistment notice from CMPB as soon as I can.

Because it seems that I'll be enlisting on Friday the 14th.

2 days notice seems very insufficient to cancel everything you wanted to do at least in the next month.

And there's the story of how ice screwed us over, but that I'll leave to... probably never.

As a note to self:
- I have books to return to people
- I have registration fees to collect
- I have prize money to take and distribute
- I have scores to collect back

and I have to be in Tekong soon.

Tofuboi posting!

www.teamzenith.net

A surprisingly detailed look through of our first LAN compe in 3 months.

I'm not sure how to go about it, but I've decided that if I ever do any series of "funky" tournaments, I'll start off with the POTM -OM -SH. 4v4 seems ideal. I've been talking to people regarding any possible logistical complications or other difficult parts about running an online tournament and, well, since it seems like I'm probably motivated enough, there should be SOMETHING coming up along these lines.

Of course, with community support it could turn into something bigger. Here's the general set of rules that I've drafted out, for any feedback. Justifications are included.

Pre-game: Before the game starts, both teams should agree on a host and which side they want. If they can't agree on which team takes which side, they will roll for it. Hosting problems are their own problems.

Game mode: Blue is to type '-omsh' at the start of the game and select the PRIESTESS OF THE MOON.

Restrictions: No hacking. That's about it. Anyone caught hacking will be banned, spammed, and be visited in his house to talk with his parents etc. You can backdoor, you can pool, you can grab runes. Of course, any complains of any other untolerable behaviour will be looked into (so please don't go cursing your opponent's next 12 generations just because the rules say nothing about it). Anything said in team chat will not be cared about by the admins, but who knows what your opponents might think ^^.

Victory conditions: 6 kills or one tower. Any volunteers for testing this with me? I'm aiming for a game length of 20 minutes or less.

Structure: I'm thinking of double elimination, and everything to happen on one night. That keeps things manageable, and provides extra incentive to try to keep the games short.

Others: Needless to say, each player is only allowed to play for one team, or he will be shot and verbally abused. I was actually thinking of a system where you could steal any player you wanted from a team you defeated (with his consent) but it's a little too complicated to keep track of that.

Future proposals: I'm planning something along more -om stuff, but with drafting involved. Definitely some form of opponents picking at least some of your heroes. Most of the series will probably be -om. There will however, be NO PUDGE. BECAUSE YOU HAVE ENOUGH PUDGE WARS ALREADY.

I was thinking of doing something with -wtf but that would really require too much thinking and restrictions to make fair.

I'm thinking of starting small, something like $10 and 16 teams at most (if I get 16 I'll be rather happy). If it ever reaches the point where there's actually a LAN competition, that'll be something to celebrate about.

Awww teamzenith.net still gets little traffic. Thus I shall post here. This content doesn't fit there anyway.

I'm seriously thinking of organising something quick, fun, and unconventional for an online competition, since I have the time. Online of course, because it saves so much trouble. It'll be something short and sweet, with low stakes and all prizes coming from registration. Just to give people a reason to play something different.

I'm thinking for starters of something along the lines of -apom double elimination. Then again, many people won't be willing to pay huge sums of registration fee for that. Perhaps I'll start small, something like 16 people with $10 registration. APOM after all makes for quick games. After all, the scene is getting dull locally. Low stakes and less time spent also makes for a good combination.

Then it'll be awesome if I can start a series of joke tournaments. I'm really going to have to see response though. I would probably do something like 3v3 or 4v4 to hopefully garner a larger response. Victory conditions will probably be changed as well to keep the game short. For now, I think something like -rvom, reverse only mid, will do very well. Or something modified, like picking a pool of 8 heroes for your opponents and having them choose 5.

I'm also thinking of something like a full pooling game, where only one hero is allowed to carry items that cost more than 600 gold (unless buying for teammate). Pooling of course, is allowed and meant to happen.

POTM -omsh is DEFINITELY something I want to do if this ever starts off.

I'll probably go around talking to people in the next few days. If response is good, I'll start something off. If response is bad, you'll hear from me anyway on why. Either way there'll definitely be stuff to write.

And if you want to know why I'm writing again, well, I'll write that next week ^^. Maybe.

www.teamzenith.net is not dead!

One one one. I'll write more on it when I feel the urge to write on it, but everything will go THERE instead of HERE!!

Expect updates there consistently. Not daily unless I have those inspirational moments again, but weekly or bi-weekly sounds okay.

If anything you can always wait in anticipation for when TOFUBOI RAPES THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE IN A POST.
